Routes Worth Riding

Czech Republic has over 40,000 kilometres of marked cycling routes. Not all of them are worth your time. Some are poorly surfaced, others pass through industrial zones, and a few are genuinely spectacular.

I have been cycling in Bohemia and Moravia for more than a decade. This site collects what I have learned: which routes reward the effort, what conditions to expect by season, and where to stop along the way.

The information here comes from personal experience, not press releases. I update routes when conditions change and note when infrastructure has improved or deteriorated.

Best Seasons

April through October is the main cycling season. May and September offer the best combination of mild temperatures and fewer tourists. Summer weekends on popular routes like the Vltava trail can be crowded.

Route Markings

Czech cycling routes use a national numbering system maintained by KČT (Klub českých turistů). Single-digit numbers are long-distance routes, two-digit numbers are regional, and four-digit numbers are local loops.

Surface Types

Dedicated cycle paths (cyklostezky) are paved and suitable for road bikes. Marked routes on forest tracks (lesní cesty) require a hybrid or mountain bike. Route descriptions on this site always specify surface type.
